Accident with manhole cover: Training canceled

Only two riders were able to complete a complete lap, as the 1st training at the GP of Azerbaijan was canceled after a dangerous accident. At the salvage there was another breakdown.

An apparently insufficiently attached manhole cover led to the premature end of the first free practice session before the Formula 1 race in Baku. A good ten minutes after the start of Friday’s session in Azerbaijan, the Briton George Russell drove over a manhole cover, which was sucked by his Williams and completely destroyed the undercarriage of the car.

Parts of the car flew dangerously through the air on a long straight of the city course on the Caspian Sea. Apparently, the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc had previously solved the cover from the road. That was seen on TV recordings.
